These guys never waste any time wrecking your neck. The last VOMITORY album “All Heads Are Gonna Roll” was a rocket propelled nuclear enema that went straight up your ass and “In Death Throes” opens with the same blistering pace…”Rapture In Rupture”, “For Gore And Country” and “Forever Scorned” hit with maximum speed. Many tracks here remind me of the classic attack SLAYER pioneered on “Reign In Blood”. No fat, no intros, no samples…just pure heat!
“Wrath Unbound” does see VOMITORY easing up the throttle just a tad, as this cut is more about crunch rather than speed. The title track is the longest on record and still doesn’t reach five minutes. That’s fine with me. It starts with a slow build, but then cuts loose with some of the fiercest death thrash. The vocals of Erik Rundqvist are a kind of pained grunt that sounds like he’s struggling with constipation. That helps things lean more towards the death metal side.
I will say that the direct approach is refreshing here, but as the album gets into its second half, it settles into a quite predictable groove. This is where I think “All Heads Are Gonna Roll” had the advantage. But if you like gory Swedish violence in musical form, “The Zombie War General” and drolly titled “Two And A Half Men” are sure to please. There hasn’t been a lot of really good Swe-death in 2026 so far so this comes as a welcome release.
