Sometimes you just need the filth. Screw the technicality, screw the “emotional resonance”, screw crystal clear production. For such times, the Sentient Ruin label is usually there to help. And this time, they’ve come up with a doozy. If Hell has a house band, they might sound like RAHATY.
RAHATY is really PA VESH EN from the dreary steppes of Belarus. Yes, it’s another one man band. Or in this case, a one beast band. Apparently the dingy sounds of PA VESH EN were not abhorrent enough, so RAHATY makes that sound like BTS. When you cross the crustiest grindcore with the most goat-worshipping aspects of black metal, you get blackened war metal, which is the sound of RAHATY. This is ugly ultra-aggressive horror, conjuring up memories of ARCHGOAT, BLASPHEMY and France’s extremely underrated TEMPLE OF BAAL.
It is more properly a mini-album, well under the half hour mark. Which actually works for material this over the top. The majority of tracks clock in at about two and a half minutes or so and there is no relief during any of those tunes. Titles like “Desecration Cannonade”, “Benediction of the Goatspawn” and “Apostles of Blasphemy” are attacks in themselves…any pretense of structure or class in PA VESH EN’s own music is out the window here. There are a couple of ambient soundscapes along the way but they add to the heresy.
Raw, sulphurous and lacking all aspects of class, this is black war/death metal designed only to punish!
