My first thought was that the band name meant “honorable bras” but putting it into the trusty “French To English” translator yields a different result: the name means “middle finger”! Ha ha, these guys are giving everybody the bird!
This is simple music built on simple misanthropy and drawing influence from “idiot metal” bands like VON, PROFANATICA and ARCHGOAT. The two members of the band are “R” and “V” and since DRUDKH and BLOOD OF KINGU are mentioned in the PR sheet, it’s certain that “R” is the very busy Ukrainian extremist Roman Saenko. Roman’s bands are all pretty uniformly great, but BRAS D’HONNEUR is on the most basic and caveman-like level, with tons of repetition of simple riffs, military-style drumbeats and death metal roars. If you want to get your ass kicked by raw, blasphemous music, “Hate Speech” is for you. How negative are the lyrics? I dunno, but with songs titled “Goat Rapists”, “Scum of the Earth” and “Eaten Alive By the Pigs”, they are not melancholy laments of unrequited love.
It accomplishes its mission well, but has the same difficulty most of this type of “hate metal” does…it all starts to sound the same by the end. Nevertheless, there’s a place for metal so mean and hateful that the middle finger is perpetually raised…you’ll find BDH there with an evil grin on its face.
