HOLYCIDE     "Towards Idiocracy"

By Dr. Abner Mality

One of the great pleasures of a metal head's life is an album of pure, unadulterated thrash. Spain's HOLYCIDE have blessed us with such an effort. Thank goodness for the simple things in life!

This sucker rips all the way through. No ballads, no unnecessary "progression "...just pure speed and riffs for days. Although band members have backgrounds in death metal and grindcore, none of that can be found here. The production is perfect for this music..harsh and kind of dry, not too much bass. The vocalist is also spot on,  with a raspy snarl that matches the bitter lyrics. Yeah, HOLYCIDE have done their homework alright...

Diving into the actual songs,  it's hard to pick the best but "Power Corrupts' gets my vote. A perfect blend of Germanic thrash and 80s crossover, with neck snapping riffs and a blazing solo. Other faves include "Angry at Nothing " and the title track. But this album is great all the way around, because HOLYCIDE have mastered the essence of thrash.
