Named after the sleepy eyed toad God from the Cthulhu Mythos, this German band look to be some pretty sick puppies who enjoy a strong taste of the lash at Fraulein Heidi's. This is apparently the band's return after a 20 year layoff.
I'll be damned but this sucker is one of the best and nastiest black metal albums I've heard in a while. TSATTHOGGUA live up to their sleazy image and unleash caustic and ferocious metal that is genuinely hateful. Folkish and progressive this is definitely not! And yet the songs are well crafted and individual ..this is not faceless war metal!
"Master Morality" kicks things off with something fast and nasty...you can already feel the hate! Yet I would call this the most basic track. "Vorwarts Vernichter" ups the ante with a much riffier approach. "The Doom Scrawl of Taran-Ish" has a crawling, ominous vibe that's cool as hell. But it’s the epic "I Drive The Dogs to Thule" is truly breathtaking...almost like an evil ENSLAVED with its combo of dark melody and majesty. A great song!
There's lots more here to explore, from the MORBID ANGEL tinged frenzy of "Pechmarie" to the crushing stomp of the title track. This is mayhemic yet multifaceted...prepare to feel the fiery lash of TSATTHOGGUA!!!
