The title track comes screaming in like an atomic missile from Hell, obliterating all in its wake. This is something that would make even Glen Benton from DEICIDE grab his nuts. However, it’s a bit deceptive because there is more to Hungary’s SIN OF GOD than just 1000 mph death metal.
The band reminds me a lot of Polish death metal acts like VADER, DECAPITATED and DIES IRAE. It’s clinically precise and the sound quality is razor sharp, with thrash metal influences mixed with super chunky chugging riffs and a kind of angular feel. After the hypersonic title track, “Black Waves” comes crashing in with lots of chunk and chug and a backbone of constant double bass. “No Return” brings those characteristics into even sharper focus and then “The Unbelief” changes things up by bringing a very black metalish atmosphere and more of the DEICIDE feeling.
So SIN OF GOD is not a one trick pony, yet one has the feeling this has been done before...many times. I feel the commitment of the band...the drumming in particular is very strong...but they have yet to break out of the well-trodden path. “Blood Bound” is a good death metal album. But greatness is something they have yet to create! Maybe next time...I wouldn’t bet against it!
