There's something about Finnish black metal that separates it apart from other black metal. GOATS OF DOOM are part of the Finnish black metal mythology now for many years and I must confess that I had not heard of them until now. The album opens up with a wild sort of style and old black thrash influences are there as well as old heavy metal classic influences, making the album have the "fun" sort of feel at times. This is not purely a deadpan serious sort of atmosphere that evokes utter evil or black emotions in the sense of some, and there is a party sort of aspect to it.
The second track houses many different variants, touching on many diverse moments of old metal styles. There are a lot of melodic touches added to the guitar leads at times, sometimes seemingly a bit much and having a nearly NES OST feel; but in more of a game like “Bad Dudes” or something...though this doesn't happen all the time. The album has a wide range of influences but keeps it faithful within a certain core sound without going too overboard with it. There is the strong 80s feel at times, a sort of throwback to what I would imagine is something they either grew up with or found later, to this I cannot be certain. I would recommend you check into this album if your like the Finnish style that isn't of the more serious, religious black metal type or for something more feel good compared to such.
