Thank God for true metal. Sorry, Gene—it’s not dead yet. DESOLUS return with their sophomore effort, “Dwellers Of The Twilight Void”, dropping May 15 via Hells Headbangers. I first caught them live at Blades of Steel Metal Fest in 2023, and they absolutely floored me—loud, heavy, fast, and downright caustic.
Since then, they’ve built a solid reputation by touring relentlessly behind their debut, “System Shock”. That momentum isn’t slowing down anytime soon—and it shouldn’t. “Dwellers Of The Twilight Void” is an album that deserves to be heard and celebrated. It’s that good. This is old-school speed metal played with respect and conviction.
If you’re into the classic sounds of KREATOR and SODOM, you’ll find plenty to love here. While “System Shock” leaned more toward SODOM’s influence, this new record feels closer to KREATOR’s “Pleasure to Kill / Flag of Hate” era. And let’s clear something up—DESOLUS aren’t copying anyone. If they were, I’d call it out. What you’re hearing is their own sound: no cut-and-paste nostalgia, just authentic, high-octane metal played with razor blade sharpness.
The band comes out swinging with the title track and never eases off the gas. Every song is aggressive, heavy, and fast as hell—borderline frantic, in the best possible way. If there’s one criticism, it’s that the songs don’t vary much structurally. But honestly? It works. When you’re this good at delivering a specific style, consistency becomes a strength rather than a weakness.
Except for “Threading the Atom,” “Dwellers Of The Twilight Void” is a relentless, high-energy-ass-kicking. If you liked “System Shock”, this is a step up across the board—better production, sharper songwriting, and an even more refined edge. Highly recommended.
