SCALPTURE are getting their ducks in a row to release new album “Landkrieg” March 7 via Testimony Records. If you’re not familiar with SCALPTURE... and to be honest I wasn’t... they tread a fine line between chugging out heavy thrash and unleashing a more refined style of death metal. To SCALPTURE’s credit they’re good at what they do – smashing eardrums and breaking bones. “Landkrieg” is a literal blueprint for musical destruction. I liked this record a lot. It took me back to the early days of PESTILENCE, even ASPHYX in some respects.
“Landkrieg’”(“Land Warfare”) is SCALPTURE’s fourth record and probably their most polished effort from a sonic standpoint. The band has grown and matured with their sound and style. SCALPTURE isn’t afraid to slow it down and experiment with proggy elements of doom and atmosphere, then switch gears into tech death before dropping the hammer into a full-on thrash assault. If I was hard pressed to name one thing I really liked about “Landkrieg” it’s the masterful way SCALPTURE write, craft, and compose the songs on this disc – well thought out, well executed, and tight as hell.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say this record will appeal to diehard death heads as well as rivet dogs who crave thrash and speed. “Landkrieg” is a textured, original piece of metal we don’t get a lot of these days. This isn’t cookie cutter death / thrash, it is SCALPTURE’s declaration that tank metal is alive and well. It’s loud, it’s crushing, and best of all: It’s brutal. For me “Landkrieg” is a buy. Stream it, check it out, I think you’ll enjoy what you hear.
