This is my first go round with FOSSILIZATION from Brazil. This record managed to scratch every death metal itch I have and there aren't many bands that can do that anymore. The number one itch is the MORBID itch, which these guys have in abundance. The whole record reeks of the crypt, with tons of downtuned tremolo runs which this genre was built upon at one time. They worked hard to inject creepiness into every track and the production backs them up beautifully..
That would be enough to leave a good impression, but there's more going on here. Songs are genuinely well written, displaying great ease in moving from one style to another. The sickness of early INCANTATION is there for sure, but there's some blackness as well, in the manner of MARDUK.. "Disentombed and Reassembled By The Ages" is a textbook of how to toss brutality, morbidity, blackness and even a kind of dissonant melody into one track. "Servo" and "While The Light Lasts" are also very strong and seem epic even though they are less than six minutes in length. On the other hand, "Cremation Of A Seraph" and "Temple of Flies and Moss" bookend the album with straightforward classicism in the style of early DEATH.
"Advent Of Wounds" keeps my interest all the way through and brings me back to the days when bands were all about feeling. Top notch death metal here!
