Seminal rockers THE RODS are back with a new record dropping September 5 titled “Wild Dogs Unchained” via Massacre Records. The record is a collection of “reimagined classics from their past” with a few new songs. Here’s the question we’re all asking – Does it rock? Hell yeah, and it rolls too! Give track two “Rock And Roll Fever” a listen and you’ll know what I’m talking about.
But let me prep you before we go any further. This is THE RODS 2025, not THE RODS from the 80’s. The pace of the music is a bit slower, and there’s a much more pronounced melodic approach to the music but the heaviness is still there. Metal be thy name!
Case in point. I didn’t think I’d like“Tears For The Innocent,” which is markedly slower and leaning slightly more towards the ballad side of things, but it has a huge, massive, soaring quality to it which gives it a bigger than life feel. Loved it, huge song!
And before we go any further, David “Rock” Feinstein’s vocals are spot on killer! What a voice! THE RODS look good and sound great all the way through this album, I can’t find a bad track on here. If I did have any criticism it’d be that a few of the tunes have a Deep Purplish vibe to them but beyond that, we’re good here, and not just RODS fans, but metal fans alike, rejoice, “Wild Dogs Unchained” is a rocker, for sure.
Standout tracks include “Tears For The Innocent,” “Wild Dogs Unchained,” and “Make Me A Believer.” “Wild Dogs Unchained” has a good energy to it and the songs are pure metal, all rock. One of these days I hope to see this band live but in the meantime I dig this record and best of all, it makes me want to go back and rediscover their discography all over again. Buy, buy, buy this record, it’s great!
