SCUMRIPPER     “For A Few Fixes More”

By Dr. Abner Mality

Bands with “ripper” in their name are popping up like dandelions. We’ve had HELLRIPPER, then GRAVERIPPER and now we’ve got SCUMRIPPER. The thing is, all these bands thrash like hell in their own way. They’re all raw, punkish and faster than Matt Gaetz getting booted from the Attorney General nomination.

This scummy crew is from Finland, home of a lot of good metal and punk, and they blaze through 9 tracks in less than a half hour. If you’re into the likes of MIDNIGHT and WRAITH, this will be up your filth-drenched alley. I’ll bet SCUMRIPPER also gets a lot of influence from legendary Finnish thrash-punks TERVEET KADET. A LOT! “I Am The Trash of Evil Man” is a clumsy song title, but a grinding thrasher. One thing I like are the thin and raspy vocals of Rat Pitt, which really fit the music well.

“The Slime” adds some mid-paced crunching thrash that kinda has a TOXIC HOLOCAUST bite. “I Cum Pain” is another stupid title, but the song is the album epic at over 5 minutes and brings more of that tank-like crunch. Most cuts fly by in less than 3, with “Crippling Void” and “Early Embittered Twilight” being real lowdown thrashers while “Knights of Summer” and the title track have the kind of dirty rock and roll feel gone ballistic that MIDNIGHT has perfected.

All things considered, it’s not going to blow anyone away with clever songwriting, but for a good snort of punked out thrashy rotgut, SCUMRIPPER will do the trick.
