MUTANT SEX DEMON “Cutting Through”

With a name like MUTANT SEX DEMON, there was no way I was passing this up! I discover that MSD is a “he”, not a “they”, and he comes from the dirtiest, darkest slums of Finland (which would be a neat and tidy suburb compared to the worst parts of Chicago) with a gruesome combo of horror punk, black metal and sleaze rock. You won’t find anything clean or digital here.
The bass sound has got to be one of the heaviest and downright filthiest I have heard in a month of Sundays and it propels this album with a raunchy beat. The music is not particularly fast and is kind of a mish-mash of G.G. ALLIN and W.A.S.P., with Mr. Sex Demon’s super-crispy vocals giving a black metal edge to things. If you’re looking for traditional Finnish black metal, look elsewhere, this is the music of kinky sex clubs and back alley needle parks.
M.S.D does try and give each track its own identity; “Filth Metal Warriors” has a gross punk gone black metal feel, “Hellbound” brings the MOTÖRHEAD vibes with that ugly bass, “Riders of Devil’s Tongue” is almost speed metal, “Bloody Claws of Hatred” reminds me a bit of DEVIL MASTER with almost Goth/post punk style...and so on. There is also frequent use of samples to help add atmosphere.
This doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what it is, which is sleazy Satanic rock and roll. Approach accordingly and with caution!
