SEPTAGE

SEPTAGE     "Septic Worship"

By Dr. Abner Mality

Haven't seen a gory dead body/suppurating wound photo collage cover ala CARCASS in a while. So if you're nostalgic for pus and maggots, here's SEPTAGE from Denmark to scratch your itch. And if you miss that early CARCASS sickening gore metal, this might tide you over as well.

Nobody who picks up an album with cover art like this could be surprised at what lurks within. The only question is, does it measure up to its influences? In this case, I'd have to say no. True, SEPTAGE deliver utterly foul and filthy deathgrind here, complete with goofball song titles, but there was a certain ugly rotten tone to old CARCASS that has never been replicated. GENERAL SURGERY and COUNTY MEDICAL EXAMINERS came pretty close, though. SEPTAGE could use a more diseased and thick bass sound and the fifteen demented ditties here don't quite stick in your brain. Beyond a doubt, it's heavy enough and sick enough to satisfy in a general way. But it's not quite on the level of the true goregrind greats...yet.

Still, there's not a lot of this kind of bilge out there, so gorehounds are directed to bow their heads in "Septic Worship".
