Here’s another one of those records where sheer barbarity overcomes almost any objection. I know very little about this band as my promo had NO write-up on them or even band member names. One thing can’t be denied...they are as brutal as it gets.
Most will categorize this as deathcore and while there’s a sizable amount of that in CRUCIFICTION, there’s a surprising amount of just pure death metal. I’d say 2/3 of this is pure brutal death and slam, with 1/3 of typical over the top deathcore. Cuts like “VHS”, “The Collection” and “Amputated Satisfaction” all start with blasts of SUFFOCATION and DEVOURMENT style beatdown, but they end with the knuckle-dragging breakdowns of CHELSEA GRIN, SLAUGHTER TO PREVAIL and the like. Since the songs are all pretty brief and the albums blows by at less than a half hour, the core elements are less annoying than usual. This is ALL about the mayhem...no attempts at symphonic stuff or clean vocals.
Speaking of which, the ripped throat shrieks of the singer are pure core and very exhausting to listen to. On “VHS”, there’s some super guttural grunts but I think those are courtesy of guest growler Darius of SPITE. The breakdowns are exactly what you’d expect but are still SUPER thick. I don’t think CRUCIFICTION is the greatest thing I’ve heard, but the sheer heaviness gives it more appeal than the usual deathcore stuff.
