I do LOVE me some grindcore from “the heartland”, and MELTING ROT—a deranged three-piece from Aurora, IL is just that. They’re finally back with the band’s second LP, “Infatuation with Premeditation”, out now from Hell’s Headbangers.
Honestly, there’s little to write here, and that’s a good thing. These dudes play goregrind and they fucking rip. The vocals are guttural, the blast beats are blazing, and the guitars are detuned sawblades.
Every song—there are eleven of them—is some combination of D-beat, blast beat, and mince. Each tune, the longest of which is just over two minutes long and contains a minute-long sample— will compel you to move your body, whether that’s by way of nodding your head on the one, or throwing elbows to some poor asshole’s face. It’s no-frills grindcore in that it’s EXACTLY what you expect, but in the best ways possible. In fact, MELTING ROT may have achieved negative frills with this one.
I don’t always include a track listing, but in this case, I think it will do a fine job of supplementing how little the band’s “Ogre-id” musical approach leaves me to write about while also providing you an aesthetic window into what you should expect on “Infatuation with “Premeditation”:
1. Short-Term Memory, Long-Term Decomposition
2. Human Pavement Splatter
3. Blinded. Beaten. Stabbed.
4. The Surgeon Was Comatose
5. Submerged in Accelerant
6. Aiming for Construction Workers
7. Open Casket Vomit Spew
8. Morbid Infatuation
9. Torrential Continuous Arterial Bleeding
10. Physically Murdered
11. Forklift Facelift
And it all comes at you like daggers to the head in less than 18 minutes. This one slides right in there with the best of INSECT WARFARE, WORMROT, DEAD INFECTION, and EXCRUCIATING TERROR. MELTING ROT’s “Infatuation with “Premeditation” is a monster.
