The Sentient Ruin label strikes again with another brutal blow beneath the belt. The DIY label has a great nose for finding powerful and raw underground bands...CLAN DOS MORTOS CICATRIZ (which I think translates as “Clan of Two Dead Locusts”) hail from a rough town in Brazil and deliver 15 tracks of what they call “death punk”.
This sucker hits hard and fast and pulls no punches. The “death” comes from primitive riff-based acts like HELLHAMMER, SODOM and KHOLD while the “punk” owes a lot to BLACK FLAG, CRUCIFIX, DISCHARGE, ANTICIMEX and probably a bunch more. Nope, no BLINK 182 or GREEN DAY here. This is the sound of the slums given physical form. Not going to go over all 15 tracks here, but if you like getting slapped in the balls by a solid wall of riffs, CDMC is a good way to satisfy your lust for punishment.
It’s not technical at all, but not super sloppy either. The drums in particular are a lot sharper than you might think for this kind of material. The punkiness comes across loud and clear in the vocals, which actually have an almost Goth kind of sound. No growling or rasping! Of course, the lyrics are all in Portuguese, but a look at the cover reveals chaos, suffering and blood red fury. All of which can be found in spades on “Tecnicas de Morte”.
