Italy’s brutal death metal menace PUTRIDITY is back with a new LP called “Morbid Ataraxia” from Willowtip Records, and it absolutely crushes.
The first order of business, though, is the giant monster vagina adorning the cover. It’s goofy. Both conceptually and aesthetically. Let’s find some new ways to “shock”, huh, fellas? Aside from that crass choice, though, the music is top-notch provided you enjoy the absolute brutalest of death metals.
“Morbid Ataraxia” is composed of eight tracks of absolute savagery. You see the word “uncompromising” tossed around in these circles often, but rarely do you hear a band to which that descriptor actually applies. PUTRIDITY is it.
The vocals are deep, gurgling gutturals, full time and the blast beats aren’t just fast, but they’re relentless. In fact, halftime might get you beat up, so don’t even think about it. Then the guitars grind away at your ability to defend yourself. It’s musical violence at its finest, an overwhelming aural onslaught in the best possible way. And it really is no-frills. If you’re looking for a bunch of movie samples, or artsy ambient bullshit, or even guitar solos, this ain’t it.
Excuse the cliché, but this style isn’t for the faint of heart. Even for fans of the genre, it can be an exhausting listen. That’s the point. But when you need to scratch that BDM itch, PUTRIDITY’s “Morbid Ataraxia” does it as well as anything from bands like BRODEQUIN, DISGORGE, or INTERNAL SUFFERING.
Destructive aggression and heaviness, incoming!
