ECTOVOID “In Unreality’s Coffin”

Man, your devotion to the underground has to be immense if you’re churning out death metal in the swamps of Alabama for more than 15 years! That’s the story behind ECTOVOID and here they’ve come up with old school death metal so sick that even alligators and MAGAbillies will be moshing to it big time!
These tunes can’t be described as ground-breaking, but they’re not trend-hopping caveman stuff, either. ECTOVOID don’t really sound like any one band in particular, but the likes of AUTOPSY, INCANTATION and NECROT come to mind. They swirl all of that together and a lot more besides to come up with a rancid stew that is putrid yet surprisingly progressive at times. I see the band features members of FATHER BEFOULED, so they are not entirely restricted to just one outfit.
The album starts sturdily with the ripping “Dissonance Corporeum”, which despite its title is not dissonant DM but rather something a lot like NECROT. From there, the album gets better, which is always a great sign.Songs like “Irradiated Self”, “Erroneous Birth” and the title track are no bullshit slammers like the faster DEATH, ala “Zombie Ritual” and “Pull The Plug” but with a vibe that is nothing but ECTOVOID. C.B. has great gravel-chewing vocals that are demonic yet understandable.
The band has time for two long and more involved tracks, “Formless Seeking Form” and “In Anguished Levitation”. Both show these guys have superior technical ability. There’s even eerie melody on the instrumental “It Is Without Shape”. All in all, ECTOVOID have a lot to be proud of in their 15 year plus history. ROLL, TIDE!
