VIMUR     "The Timeless Everpresent"

By Dr. Abner Mality

I don't think there are many acts more meticulous in what they do than Atlanta's black metal warriors VIMUR. Reading their band biography reveals an almost insane fussiness and attention to detail. That insures their albums are quality but are erratic in when they pop up.

This is quality black metal from start to finish,  with every song having a distinct sound and influence.  Even the opening intro "Resacralization" has a triumphant ringing tone that sets the stage for the progressive forward thrust of "Fire, Glory and Thinking", which almost sounds like a black metal HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE with its melodic aggression.

The album ranges from the IMMORTAL warrior riffs of "Sons of Another Light" to the slow INQUISITION ooziness of "Wounded Window" to the super trebly Nordic speed of "The Cold Only We Know". Yet it all has the VIMUR sound to it. That's no small achievement.

The last 3 tracks veer more towards the longer and more epic side of the coin,  experimenting with some clean vocals and keyboard textures...a bit like the heavier ENSLAVED. I can't say that every cut here hit me equally but at every moment I knew I was listening to top notch black metal. VIMUR remains one of North America's best BM Bands.
