Coming by way of a wiry, sort of apocalyptic black metal comes NAMEBEARER. At times reminiscent of, say, ARCTURUS, the vocals attempt the risks of climbing the turnbuckles for high flying maneuvers. This album/ep weighs in at the 28 minute mark and does stay in the black metal field for the most part. It seems the album is something that must be listened to more than once to get an understanding of it.
To me there is a feeling of when many old Norse BM acts went more Avant Garde and tried different things that sometimes worked and more often not. For the actual frame and restriction of the usual bass, guitars, drums, vocals they do make some unique things work in patterns and ways that are not as ordinarily done, and this makes for a more interesting and admirable listen, though at times it seems athletic. At the end of the listen, one understands he must listen again, and this in itself is a good thing.
