Sewer crawlers and dumpster divers, rejoice! Toronto's COPROLITH has risen from the fetid muck to assault your senses with an attack of good old rotten doom death! I know, that's nothing new these days, but wow, do these guys sound disgusting!
You can probably guess the musical influences here and you wouldn't be wrong, but this is a band that's not just an imitation of a certain sound...it's a total mastery of it. And yes, INCANTATION and AUTOPSY can surely be heard here, but there's also strong resemblance to Japan's horrific COFFINS and Sweden's sickening UNDERGANG as well. A feeling of utter morbidity hovers over tunes like the title track, "Defiling Incantation" and "Possessed By Violent Incoherent Suggestions". It's not just in the riffs (which are awesome) but in the very sound. Ugly, downtuned and filthy.
There are faster, more battering ram songs as well, like the super catchy "Sentenced To the Grave", "Birthed By Remorseless Flames" and "Another Skull To Claim". But the same dank cobwebs cling to these tunes as well. In the end, we have another promising death doom act in an era where that subgenre is having quite a renaissance. Sticky, icky and thicky!
