A sip from this chalice will cause you to vomit flaming black blood. Very much an example of “what you see is absolutely what you fuckin’ get”, NECROMUTILATOR serves up some slices of pure Satanic metal hearkening back to the late 90’s when the likes of MARDUK, ACHERON and the like held sway.
Song titles like “Burning Holocaust Winds”, “Fullmoon Vomitprayer” and “Infernal Omega Storm” reveal both intent and method as NECROMUTILATOR eschew subtlety and philosophy in favor of a straight attack of blackened death metal so blasphemous even Stevie Wonder could see it. The approach is speedy and riff-based, kinda like ARCHGOAT meeting DEICIDE. At no point does this enter the flat-out noisy holocaust of war metal, though. The riffs are meaty and easy to get into but without much variation. From the “Bloodred Teeth of Iblys” to “Infernal Omega Storm”, the songs offer the same general style, which is OK if you’re just after evil headbanging but rather dull if you’re looking for anything else.
The record ends with a cover of SARCOFAGO’s “Deathrash” and that is yet another touchstone for NECROMUTILATOR’s style. I dug the whispery sinister vocals, which added a lot of atmosphere to the album. You ought to know by now if “The Annihilation Chalice” is worth chugging down…
