Italy has coughed up its fair share of brutal death metal bands over the years and DEMIURGON shows that trend has no sign of slowing up. Right from the get go, this album has an absolutely massive sound. Transcending Obscurity is a label known for great sounding records and this would be near the top of their roster. Everything is crystal clear, with the drums popping like missiles from an RPG. It’s obvious DEMIURGON is treading a well-known path, following in the steps of American acts like HATE ETERNAL, SKELETAL REMAINS and SUFFOCATION. But they are hanging right with those acts and not trailing meekly behind.
“Worldwide Grave” is 100% HATE ETERNAL worship, slamming viciously into your skull with precision riffs and machine gun drums. An album full of tracks like this would be acceptable, but these dudes manage to add their own twists. “Aspiring To Omnipotence” is really on another level….utter brain-smashing mayhem. The title track brings some of the dark feeling of IMMOLATION into the fray...great riffs! Riccardo Valent the drummer just doesn’t let up for an instant. Is he man or machine?
I do feel DEMIURGON slacks up a little bit at the end. They still play with brutality, but “Throne of Derangement” struck me as pretty generic. “Apoptosi” in itself is not bad, but you are pretty much exhausted by the time you get there. This s a problem that even the greatest of brutal bands like DEICIDE and SUFFOCATION suffer from. It is really the only issue this album has. It’s American style death metal brutality delivered with no mercy.
