HOLLOW LEG are gearing up to release new record “Dust And Echoes” June 13 via Third House Communications. Interestingly enough, “Dust And Echoes” is the combination of two EPs combined into one record. The first EP is “Dust” beginning with the song "Snake Bite" with “Echoes” kicking in with the track "Last Tribe." Doesn't matter to me, the music presented here is a master exercise in dreary heaviness.
If I'm being transparent, I wasn't aware of this band until I received their digital promo, but I'm a fan now. HOLLOW LEG was formed in the swamplands of Florida back in the year of our lord, 2009. Since then, they've played Psycho Las Vegas, Maryland Doom Fest, and built up quite the catalog. If you’re up for a trip in the way-back machine, check out their 2016 disc “Crown”, it’ll blow you away with how good it is.
I like what I hear with “Dust And Echoes” which alternates between doom and grunge if you can wrap your head around that. Track five, "Holy Water," is pure ominous doom while track one, "Poison Bite," and track six, "Last Tribe" are straight up raw, grunge reminding me of a time when bands like TAD and SKIN YARD were the real deal to pay attention to versus their more commercial counterparts like PEARL JAM or THE SCREAMING TREES.
It's hard to imagine this music is coming out of Florida and not somewhere out in the Pacific Northwest. The songs that make up “Dust And Echoes” is about as true and honest as you can get when it comes to this style of heavy-duty sludge rock HOLLOW LEG cranks out. The music is real and genuine, it doesn't feel forced and thank God it doesn't come across retro or "wannabe." This is what you listen to when it's been raining, dark, and overcast for the last few months, drinking beer and smoking pot in the garage. “Dust And Echoes” is a must buy for sure.
