 NOITILA      “Lagenutt”

By Octopi Mills

The band's name allegedly translates as "witches bay" and the place they come from is Finland. I never would have guessed they were from Finland; that would have been a bet I would have lost here. "We Bathe in the Rain of Angel's Blood" is the title of the first song on here and seems to daydream of things like that title would suggest for seven minutes or so. There isn't a lot going on in way of lyrical content or breaking any new ground nor in much of anything, to tell you the truth. Black metal it is, with a matte gray sort of feel. Eventually there's an acoustic interlude of sorts that sort of breaks the monotony, of maybe a howl of wind.

Promos include less than basic standard of a black and white photo of two guys in the snow as one has seen many times over in this sort of genre. Apparently this was created in a cabin in nature in the woods. Looking back on it this could have possibly been one of the most uninspired sounding black metal album one could ever have heard, which is a hard thing to say. There are some moments though; a frosty feel and such, a feral vocal line or a part that hammers around on something somewhere. It is a straight-forward approach here, one cannot argue this. When one hears something like "Corpse" I'm not so sure it would have caught much of a response even in the 1980s, though, sadly.
