The almighty, iconic, trailblazing GRAVE DIGGER have a new record coming out in January called “Bone Collector”. It’s 11 tracks of face punching power metal excellence. How is it possible this band is still around after banging heads for the last 45 years and still crushing skulls to boot? Thank god for bands like GRAVE DIGGERand SAXON and HAMMERFALL who continue to redefine and carve out the power metal genre while still paving the way for newer bands to pick up arms and go into battle today.
By the time I got to track two, the hard charging "The Rich, The Poor, The Dying" I started thinking about what Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth said to the audience when I saw OVERKILLlive not too long ago. "I don't wanna see any of that pussy shit out there!" His sentiment holds true here. “Bone Collector” isn't a record of poser-filler-nonsense, this is real deal, fist in the air heavy metal. “Bone Collector” is a breath of fresh air in a genre that's been choked out by band wagon jumpers clogging up metal festivals across the country. Can you hold a torch to MOTORHEAD? Probably not but GRAVE DIGGER can. T "Killing Is My Pleasure," is caked in Lemmy grittiness; singer Chris Boltendahl has that gruff, raspiness to his voice backed up by Jens Becker (Bass), Tobias Kersting (Guitar) and Marcus Kniep (Drums).
“Bone Collector” is a bible for metal, a schematic on how to bang thy head, and do it the right way. The song writing, the music, hell, the band, all comes together here, and it rocks. I can't recommend this record enough. Check out tracks like "Riders Of Doom," "Graveyard Kings," and "The Rich, The Poor, The Dying" and tell me this isn't one of GRAVE DIGGER's best records to date.
