SACRIFICE
SACRIFICE “Volume Six”
By Theron Moore
Toronto Canada’s almighty, even legendary thrash godfathers SACRIFICE will be releasing their new album “Volume Six” February 21 via Cursed Blessings Records. This will be the band’s sixth album overall and second since reforming in 2006 featuring ten original tracks and one cover song. Two tracks into this record and I’m already calling it SACRIFICE’s best album to date.
The first song “Comatose” tore my head off. The second track “Antidote Of Poison” played kickball with it. SACRIFICE’s sound on “Volume Six” is nothing less than vicious and aggressive... really digging into that late 80’s, early to mid-90’s thrash sound but sharpening the blade even further to reflect how much growth and maturity the band is showing on this disc.
“Underneath Millenia,” is a slower, much more technical approach to the thrash milieu preferring to build its heaviness gradually instead of bashing you over the head with it, building to an explosive finish at about the 2:55 mark. But the true beauty of “Volume Six” is SACRIFICE’s sheer mastery and dominance over the thrash genre blending speed with punch and doing it without becoming a cliché of itself.
All in all, “Volume Six” is a great record. It’s a throwback to an era of thrash we only see now with retro, wannabe bands. After listening to this disc, I found myself saying SLAYER might be gone but by god SACRIFICEis still here. Buy “Volume Six”, you won’t be disappointed. Track six, “Incoming Mass Extinction” is worth the price alone.
