ETERNAL EVIL “The Warriors Awakening Brings The Unholy Slaughter”

By Theron Moore

Stockholm Sweden’s ETERNAL EVIL have come for blood. Their new record, “The Warriors Awakening Brings The Unholy Slaughter”, is a monument to 80’s extreme metal. Track two, “Bestial Fornication,” is a ramrod bastard, finding ETERNAL EVIL channeling their inner KREATOR (“Pleasure To Kill” era) with their outer SODOM and sounding better and tougher than both aforementioned bands do today.

Track three, “Terror Of The Sphinx,” is a head on collision of early VENOM and again, “Pleasure To Kill” era KREATOR, played super-fast, super tight, with maximum damage enabled. What shocks me to the bone is that ETERNAL EVIL actually pull this sound off better than KREATOR, SODOM, and VENOM do today.

Everything from the band pic to the album artwork to ETERNAL EVIL’s sound and song titles scream classic 80’s extreme steel. “Bestial Fornication” has a touch of DESTRUCTION to it, “The Captor’s Command” is a wink and a nod to SLAYER... hell, ETERNAL EVIL even sound like early SLAYER with a Kerry King inspired solo and Araya growled vocals. The same can be said of track six, “The Nocturnal Omen.”

Again, all of these songs are well written and superbly performed by a band that seems to have found their musical niche, but the problem is, after a while, a lot of these songs seemingly blend into each other; a prime example being tracks 6 (“Nocturnal Omen”), 7 (“Satanic Forces”), and 8 (“Rise Of Death”). It might as well be one song with three sections to it.

The final issue is, is this ETERNAL EVIL’s true sound? I ask this because there’s a heavy, heavy KREATOR – SODOM – DESTRUCTION vibe that runs through this record and it sticks out like a sore thumb. You have to ask yourself, if you want to listen to KREATOR, VENOM, or SLAYER, do you choose to listen to ETERNAL EVIL’s “The Warriors Awakening Brings The Unholy Slaughter” or do you listen to the real thing? That’s the question you have to ask yourself before you buy this record.
