From the mysterious island of Malta we have BOUND TO PREVAIL, a brutal death meta bandl only made distinct by their country of origin. I know the band BEHEADED also hail from Malta, as well as a number of doom metal bands. Well, BOUND TO PREVAIL are a professional sounding outfit with a lot of energy but their particular genre is suffering from a ton of bloat at the moment.
A look at the band photo actually reveals their inspirations; the T-shirts include SUFFOCATION, SEVERE TORTURE and VILE (that last name I haven't heard in a while!). That pretty much sums up the style they deliver...relentless fire-throwing Americanesque death with a fair amount of complexity. It took me a while to appreciate what they are doing, because the first couple of tracks struck me as extremely average with no separate identity. But as the album rolled on, I recognized how devoted they were to having a good structure to their tunes. "Consecrated Perdition" and "Dawn of Emptiness" show the blazing SEVERE TORTURE/NILE type of speedy mayhem while best track "Atone In Blasphemy" hits like the more recent SUFFOCATION...mid-paced but with crushing force. "Tomb of the Graveless" adds a bit of GORGUTS dissonance to things before they wrap things up with the short and slicing title track.
As much as I enjoyed this while I was listening to it, if you ask me to remember any of it a couple of months from now, I'd be hard pressed to do so. Nevertheless, recommended to those who like structured brutality.
