CARDINAL’S FOLLY “Let The Posers Fall!”

I had the pleasure of seeing this veteran Finnish band playing my local watering hole, Mary’s Place, along with THE HEAVILS and VANISHING KIDS. That sure wasn’t on my bingo card for 2026! Anyway, CARDINAL’S FOLLY gave us all a sneak peek at many tracks from this album that night and what I heard made me really excited for “Let The Posers Fall!”.
The album is here and it’s every bit as good as I anticipated. These guys have triumphed by keeping things pure and basic…this is doomy heavy metal based on simple but brilliant riffs that sink deep within the folds of your brain. CARDINAL’S FOLLY is reminiscent of the great WITCHFINDER GENERAL from eons ago and also Finland’s REVEREND BIZARRE. The vocals of Mikko are sad, plaintive and almost “flat” sounding…with any other type of metal, they would be considered poor, but here they add to the bleak feeling of the music. Sometimes, a grey and rainy day is OK and for those days, we have CARDINAL’S FOLLY!
Their music is called “doom” but that doesn’t necessarily mean a snail’s pace. Tracks like “Hitch-Hike” and “Luchador” actually have a driving, forceful feeling but they retain that gloomy aura that makes doom an accurate description. The riffs on these tracks are classic! Yet even better are “Cultist’s HIghway” and “Providence”...the former is frankly the best pure doom track I have heard this year while the Lovecraft-influenced latter track is just fucking massive! I really love this kind of metal!
The title track sums up the band’s motto and approach to a T. While the world seems overrun with cosplay bands who love to play dress-up, CARDINAL’S FOLLY deliver a pure and unencumbered doom experience. HIghly recommended!
