NAKED WHIPPER gives us a song entitled “Wow Wow Wholy Whore, Hot Wax Fat Candles”. If that isn’t the most idiotic song title I’ve heard in 50 years of fandom, then I don’t know what is. Christ Almighty, are they serious???
It’s hard to tell, but I can’t argue with the relentless filthy blast this cult German band has evoked here. They were known for just one LP from 1995, “Painstreaks”, and an EP “Moloch: Acid Orgy” released the same year. 29 years is a long fuckin’ time between LP’s, but where there’s a buck to be made, you will find both musicians and record labels. I would have considered NAKED WHIPPER to be a black metal band with perverse sexual interests, but upon hearing “Chapel Defilement”, I consider them to be a grindcore band with war metal leanings and black metal trappings. This shit hits hard with a cataclysmic blast of downtuned grinding war metal. I sense strong IMPALED NAZARENE vibes with touches of BLASPHEMY and SARCOFAGO. No, this isn’t symphonic black metal or wimpy blackgaze, it’s the volcanic eruptions of Hell’s own abyss. It is worth noting that singer Dominus A.S. once sang lead for cult German grinders BLOOD...there is certainly a resemblance here. The songs are short and sweet, but even so, things sound a little samey by the end. Not an awful lot of room for experimentation here. The songs are “noisy” but NOT noise...the riffs are easy to hear and stick to your brain like glue. I especially like the catchy mayhem of “Celebrate Their Downfall” and “Out The Norm”...you can hear the faintest traces of rock n roll in the way these filthy beasts swing along.
So yes, “Wow Wow Wholy Whore Hot Wax Fat Candles” is still an incredibly stupid song title, but the song itself rocks. All I got to say to NAKED WHIPPER is “Yes, sir, can I have another?”
