I gaze into my orb of seeing and the mists clear to show the words “DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS”. Ah, the omens are good. That is a cabal that knows true metal when they find it! The mists further clear to reveal the French band PALANTYR...let the kicking of asses begin!
Dying Victims does indeed have an almost magical talent for finding old school metal bands of surpassing quality. PALANTYR, formerly known as DESTRUKT, are the latest. While innovation is not their strong suit, these guys hit hard and fast, with galloping medieval power just a hair shy of thrash and speed metal. “Shan E Sorkh” leaps forth into battle with fire and fury, coming across like “Battle Cry” era OMEN on steroids. What a full blooded steed this is! We have another leather lunged female vocalist in Athena, following in the footsteps of LADY BEAST, STYGIAN CROWN and SOLICITÖR. She gives it her all and while I’ve heard other metal maidens with a very similar tone, she can’t be faulted for lack of energy.
PALANTYR continue their ride through barbaric true metal cuts like “Broken Mirror” and the epic “Son of The White Mare”, which knocks recent IRON MAIDEN epics into a cocked hat. As the album thunders on, you get the feeling that you’ve heard stuff like “Nosferatu” and “Graveyard” before. But nobody listens to bands like PALANTYR for dazzling originality. It’s a trip back to times of dragons and armored warriors, delivered with power and punch and asking no quarter!
