PIG’S BLOOD     “Destroying the Spirit”

Depraved Milwaukee metal soldiers, PIG’S BLOOD, have a new platter of splatter due out April 24 via Dark Descent Records and it’s a motherfucker of evil, slamming death metal. 'Destroying The Spirit' is a masterclass in how to make good death metal without ripping off other bands or doing the cookie cutter thing. To those bands I say, stop being CANNIBAL CORPSE and forge your own path. PIG’S BLOOD did just that and went about a mile beyond it.

I have long been a proponent of Milwaukee metal and Milwaukee death metal going all the way back when MORTA SKULD unleashed “Prolong The Agony” on this world. We haven’t been the same since and we’re better off for it. And now PIG’S BLOOD is spreading their filthy filth everywhere proving that metal isn’t dead and death metal is still a genre to be feared and respected.

The first three songs on this disc are bat shit crazy, death metal wreckers: "Standing in Depravity," "Destroying the Spirit," and "Tartarean Infection." If I lived in Milwaukee or the surrounding area I'd self-teach myself how to promote shows just to hear PIG’S BLOOD play live as much as I could based on this record alone. I've been saying this for years – this is how you properly start a record, creating this kind of damage path. And hell no, the mass mayhem continues with "Power To Stop It," "Rabid Dogs," etc. 'Destroying The Spirit' is one of those rare records where there's not a bum track anywhere, just click play and let the madness take over.

I could continue with the accolades, but you get the idea. So far 'Destroying The Spirit' is hands down the best death metal record of the year, how anyone will top this scorcher I have no idea, but I look forward to it. ‘Destroying The Spirit’ is nothing short of heavy, grinding, primal terror-cution style metal, and if you need proof, check out the song “Aftermath.” Holy fuck, am I still alive to the tale?
