Chicago speed metal merchants MISFIRE are set to release new record ‘Product Of The Environment’ May 2 via MNRK Heavy. This isn’t their first rodeo with MNRK, they dropped “Sympathy For The Ignorant” with them in 2021. Good fortunes prevail for MISFIRE with the band scoring an opening slot on the new EXODUS tour beginning April 27 in Phoenix, AZ and ending May 13 in Asheville, NC. Enough with the small talk, let’s get down with it, shall we? Does ‘Product Of The Environment ‘thrash like a bastard or fall flat?
Good news, ‘Product Of The Environment’ is a rocker, folks! Full disclosure, I caught the band’s set at the 2023 edition of Blades Of Steel Festival and was thoroughly impressed having not heard them prior. It goes a long way with me when a band can sound great on record, as they do here, and kill it live on stage as well. That’s a sure-fire sign that we’re looking at a real deal thrash here.
If you’ve read my record reviews, it takes a lot to impress me, and MISFIRE have released one hell of a speed metal / thrash classic with “Product Of The Environment”. I could’ve done without the instrumental intro but everything after that is pure fire, especially “All Over The Place” and “We Went Through Hell.”
I previously mentioned EXODUS, and for good reason, there’s hints of this band throughout the record but when it’s all said and done, every song on here is a rager and distinctly MISFIRE. The two tracks I highlighted are just a sampling of the greatness contained in “Product Of The Environment” which is currently at the top of my ‘best of’ list for 2025. “Product Of The Environment” is a must buy, and catch this band live, they’re pure sonic destruction!
