Signal Rex has released this album which consists of song titles that are strange numbers resembling compass degrees, and so in saying this I'll be reviewing the album and songs as a whole instead of listing the unconventional titles presented at this time.
Opening with the sounds of chanting and dripping before going into dismal disharmonic droning guitars, the vocals emerge as bestial and guttural. The whole album leans into the black metal spectrum as such, but is hard to pinpoint. I will say that the entire feel is claustrophobic and subterranean, sounding as if it were a dark cave and there is someone mining for something in the sharp strings that resemble mining picks and drills below the earth. Not much else is revealed about this project or album and in that way there is a level of mystery attached to the whole thing.
I am not sure what to make of it all- whether I like it or not and my mind becomes more organic and linked to a fungal consciousness; a sort of hive mentality, if you will. Though it doesn't strike me as highly ground breaking it seems to be that something like this might need more than one mere listen to be fully understood, or even partially. I would like to say there is a MAYHEM influence, perhaps, but that is subjective to say and generic on my own part here. There is surely a dark swirl in the sum of its parts that often sound similar and relate to the other pieces like a concept album in theme. Perhaps I will return to it later and observe again what I divest and to what others have thought of this particular negative entity.
