Sometimes you just gotta reach for a beer, sit back and let some straight up heavy metal wash your troubles away. No dystopian anguish, no black metal philosophy, no deathcore screams…just an ocean of catchy, boozy riffs to ease your mind.
That’s what BULLET has been bringing to the table for the last 20 years or so. And they’re still dishing out that dirty AC/DC spawned metal on “Kickstarter”. Think of “Flick of the Switch” mixed with light touches of SAXON and ACCEPT. Songs about bombing down the highway, getting into fights and trying to pick up girls. Hell Hofer still sounds like Brian Johnson after getting his larynx scrubbed with a cheese grater. The riffs are familiar old friends and I swear the guys played the same song twice somewhere on the album.
But when BULLET really hit their stride in the middle of the album, with killer riffers like “Avenger”, “Chained To Metal” and “Spitfire”, it will loosen up your neck muscles in a hurry. The title track and “Caught In The Action” are also strong offerings basking in the shadow of AC/DC. There’s a couple of slower, bluesier tunes like “Keep Rolling” and “Night Comes Down” but you can’t call them ballads because they still rock too much.
Not one damn thing about “Kickstarter” is innovative. And man, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
