VRAJITOR'S TENEBRARIUM

VRAJITOR’S TENEBRARIUM     “E.N.L.D.”

By Dr. Abner Mality

In the 70’s, no place was spookier than Italy. The nation was over-run with gory giallo mysteries, zombie gut munchers and supernatural shockers. This horror obsession rubbed off into the music scene, as the likes of GOBLIN, FABIO FRIZZI and RIZ ORTOLANI influenced rock music, leading to creepy prog and proto-metal like JACULA, ANTONINUS REX. It was a great age of musical innovation.

The enigmatic Vrajitor, one of the prime movers of black metal band WARMOON LORD, has an obvious soft spot for this bloody era and has come up with TENEBRARIUM as a salute to it. This guy really knows what it’s all about and has obviously listened carefully to the classics. This project is a chilling recreation of uniquely Italian 70’s spook music and touches on all variations of it. The songs here range from evil Gregorian chants and sonorous church organ to funky prog and spooky proto-metal. There are some spoken word passages, usually in Italiano and delivered by a female, but this is mostly cinematic music of the most alluring kind.

Favorites here would have to be the super-freaky horror funk of “Black Frog”, the wildly diverse “Volantes Castrum” which ranges from free jazz sax to sultry strings to harpsichord music. “Exorcismus” is almost like evil disco and I can almost envision lesbian nuns working each other over while the lascivious “”Venus In the Cloister” plays. Rock guitar and analog synth frequently pop up to spice things up.

Mr. Vrajitor has come up with something that horror soundtrack aficionados and classic rock fans alike can sink their fangs into!
