Ah, this is just what the doctor ordered...and what this doctor needed! Hard crunchy rock that’s easy on the brain and tough on the neck muscles. Not sure where these guys are from, but they’ve come up with an album full of high adrenaline metallic rock in the vein of AC/DC, SKID ROW, BULLET and more!
“Kings of the Road” sets the stage beautifully with a cracking AC/DC style rocker with touches of old ACCEPT tossed in. Adrien Desquirez has a snotty, nasal sounding vocal that would be a problem for any style of music but this kind. For this kind of rock, he fits perfectly. The chorus really embeds itself in your head. “Overdrivers” and the title track follow and are more dumb but fun riff rockers made for boozy nights out. The band is locked into a groove and I can’t describe OVERDRIVERS as anything but enjoyable.
OK, “My Girlfriend Is A Pornstar” is about as deep and thoughtful as a can of warm PBR...really silly stuff but harmless. The band has a good selection of these more light-hearted but tough tracks like “Guitar Playboy” and “Ready For the Rodeo”, but there is also a slightly more metallic and serious side that arises in songs like the stalking “Cobra Kai”, “Meet The Monsters” and the darkly anthemic “We Are One”. It’s hard to figure which side of OVERDRIVERS I like more and that’s a good problem to have. For favorite track, it’s a tie between “Perfection Is My Name” and “Kings of the Road”.
“Glory Or Nothing” will put a smile on your face and a kink in your neck. Look it up for a cure to gloomy death metal or pompous proggy stuff!
