TYRAN of Germany, formerly known as MARTYR, offer up some rather divine witness on their debut album “Tyran's Oath”. Nine testimonies to their being warriors on the highway of heavy metal. A Teutonic excursion with “Fists Of Iron”, and a sound like it is straight out of the 80s. JUDAS PRIEST overtones, MANOWAR, and ACCEPT touches are heard throughout. With names dropped like those, they are in a lofty place. Architects of the oath we are about to undertake are Nicolas Peter on vocals, Sergej Dukart on guitar, Christian Kirr on guitar, Thomas Resch on bass, and Simon Domling on drums. Let the swearing in begin.
“Protector's Of Metal” opens with a scream akin to Tom Araya's “Angel Of Death” scream. It has a “Rapid Fire” riff that gets the blood pumping. They are "ready to fight". Next round is “Bomber” and is in the same tone as the opener. Onward with “Fists Of Iron”. It continues in the same vein. “Assault” is up next and without warning it sends a metal attack. Landing next is “Thrill Of The Chase”. "It's all about the catch." Next catch is “Highway Warriors”. "We run through the night." Running into a “Strike Of The Whip” we are almost at our last lash. “Riot In The Streets” is "a fight for survival." Last of the studio cuts is “Tyran's Oath”. "Never surrender, or you're destined for defeat." "For your own survival there is a riot in the streets." "Let it be eternal." And to close the album there are two live tracks “Lightning Strikes” and “Heavy Metal Outlaws”.They close out the album in a twin guitar attack that doesn't slow the pace.
Twin guitar attacks, high powered vocals, and a love of 80s metal are what TYRAN is all about. “Tyran's Oath” is an oath worth undertaking. Real life issues give the album a lyrical journey without defeat, and it is played through the eyes of TYRAN. If you are a fan of JUDAS PRIEST and their dual guitar playing this will not disappoint. It will put one in mind of “British Steel” era JP. This album falls into the category of the NWOTHM much like JUDAS PRIEST were a part of the NWOBHM. TYRAN capture a great period of metal on “Tyran's Oath”. It is a great ride down the highway of heavy metal. Put the disc in, crank to 11, and take the Oath at the altar of TYRAN!
