SULFURIC HATRED

SULFURIC HATRED     "Sulfuric Hatred"

By Dr. Abner Mality

The old grindhouse horror movie ads used to ask: "How much terror can your shredded nerves take?". That was usually followed up by an exclamation like "Raw horror beyond belief!" That's pretty much the same kind of advertising you'd expected for SULFURIC HATRED's self-named debut.

This is like taking a bath in acid and then having your remains tossed into a woodchipper. "War metal" is a description that can be applied to SULFURIC HATRED but there's more to it even than that. This is metal and noise pushed to the brink of sanity. And whereas most of what falls along those lines could be described as pure garbage, somehow these guys transcend that. There is a structure to be found beneath the squealing, blown out excess of the thermonuclear warheads here. Even though a layer of crackling white hot fuzz bathes the tunes, there are strong riffs and intriguing variations in the noise framework that grab your interest and keep it. It's all harsh but tracks like "Sanctioned Execution of Profane Torture" and "Stacked Remains in the Charnel Pits" have thick, doom-like plod that just flattens everything in sight. "Prostrated Human Race" even boasts some blackened melody and mournful guitar amidst the sizzling carnage. But then there are cuts like "World Fucking Collapse" and "Sulfuric Hatred" that just flay flesh and bone with pure atomic rage. In full flight, SULFURIC HATRED makes BLASPHEMY sound about as extreme as LACUNA COIL.

I see the lead vocals...or whatever passes for them...are contributed by Alex Jones of UNDEATH...a real surprise, as I consider UNDEATH to be pretty average. This band is yet another discovery of Sentient Ruin Laboratories, who somehow have the knack of finding ultra-extreme acts that don't sound like garbage. SULFURIC HATRED is one of these. CAN YOUR NERVES STAND THE SHOCK?!
