AZATOTH     “Carnal Lust Of Blasphemy”

A stench from an open grave reaches your nostrils…must be something new from Extremely Rotten Productions on the stereo. And so it is! With an album title like this, we are in for one knee-slapping laugh riot of putrid death, courtesy of this young Finnish band, who are seen in a graveyard staring at their shoes and turning their hands into claws.

Finland has a great tradition of extra-rancid old school death metal and AZATOTH do their best to live up to it here. The record sounds like it was recorded in a cavern deep below a graveyard, with minimal equipment and enough reverb to sink the Titanic. If you’re expecting PSYCROPTIC style death metal, get out now while you’re still alive! After an eerie CELTIC FROST type intro, “Flooding Human Remains” takes a new seconds to take form…and a rotten form it is. Owing much to Finnish masters like early CONVULSE and DEMIGOD as well as current fiends such as UNDERGANG, this is death metal at its most cobwebbed and decayed.

If you can take it, there’s some great cryptic riffing to be found in “Abomination of the Underworld” and “Extinguished Souls of Putridity”. It’s a solid mix of rancid doominess and total aggression, with cat-strangling solos ala AUTOPSY popping up frequently. “Sulphuric Paths To Agony” will pretty much rip your guts out with annihilating vibrations.

Of course, there is zero innovation to be found anywhere here and a couple of tracks like “Blasphemous Flesh” and “Putrid Altar of Eternal Decay” have a “going through the motions” feel, but if you like your meat rotten and full of maggots, AZATOTH is here to serve!
