NIGHT FEVER

NIGHT FEVER     “Dead End”

By Dr. Abner Mality

I think this record might set a record for how many times the word “fuck” is used. I suppose some street rap guy has got it beat, but it can’t be by much. It gets to be somewhat wearying by the time “Dead End” reaches what the title implies.

NIGHT FEVER is an aggressive hardcore band from K-Town Denmark that has a metal edge and energy to spare. This album hits hard and fast and never really lets up during its whole length. It will take you back to the great days of NYHC and affiliated acts like KILLING TIME, JUDGE, YOUTH OF TODAY and more. There’s a lot of metal in the guitar production and also some of the “action rock” sound, but at all times, the album is rooted in hardcore punk. Hence the constant F-bombs being dropped by super angry lead singer Salomon, who could use some blood pressure meds. If NIGHT FEVER has an Achilles’ heel, it’s Salomon’s voice, which is a kind of high pitched shout that has a carload of anger but not a hell of a lot of style. There was something about it that just kind of grated on me, but that’s my personal reaction...your mileage may very.

Looking past the vocals, not much to complain about here. While the music is simple and not too complicated, there is variation in tone that keeps you interested. The beginning to “Lone Wolf” is a dead ringer for MEGADETH’s “Tornado of Souls” but that doesn’t last too long.  “Up The Wall” and “Waiting For Death” are fast and furious hardcore straight outta the Bronx circa 1988. But my favorite track might be “By The Throat”...the slowest song, but with a groove that will shake your bones.

“Dead End” is not without a few glitches, but it’s rare you hear NYHC type jams this pure anymore. That’s what makes NIGHT FEVER stand out.
