AGGRESSION

AGGRESSION      “Frozen Aggressors”

By Theron Moore

Long running Canadian thrash overlords, AGGRESSION, are set to release their new record “Frozen Aggressors” on December 1 via Massacre Records. According to their bio “Frozen Aggressors” is only the sixth studio record the band has released since their first album “The Full Treatment” was unleashed on an unsuspecting public in 1987. After that it was a 17 year dry spell until their second disc hit the streets in 2004 titled “Forgotten Skeleton” After 36 years I think it’s fair to ask this question: Is the music killer or is just filler?

Let’s clear it up right now, shall we? Killer. “Frozen Aggressors” is a monster thrash / crossover record with just the right infusion of punk and even a wink and a nod to classic VENOM ala the track “Holidays In Sodom.” Nice touch. “Satanic Cult Gangbang” continues the blackened VENOM worship mixed in with a tad bit of dare I say S.O.D.? I know I’ve dropped a few band names describing AGGRESSION’s music on “Frozen Aggressors” but I want to make it clear that this entire album is distinctly AGGRESSION and 100% their sound.

One of the standout tunes on this disc is “Queen Of The Damned” which is a full on thrashapalooza to say the least. Other killer tracks include “Crib Of Thorns” and “Circus Of Deception”. It should be noted that the final song on this album, “Hyperspectral Winter Incursions” was written with ex-drummer Gaetan Bourassa back in 1987.

All in all, I dig the punky sneer of the vocals set against the band’s crunchy crossover sound and (often) tongue in cheek lyrics. “Frozen Aggressors” is a cool rager that pulls it all together and keeps it fun in the vein of D.R.I. and IRON REAGAN. For some odd reason AGGRESSION and fellow Canadian thrashers TERRIFIER seem to be flying beneath everyone’s radar when they should be at the top of everyone’s monthly top ten list of bands to listen to. Don’t be a poser, buy “Frozen Aggressors”.
