TERMINALIST     "The Crisis As Condition"

By Dr. Abner Mality

Extremely happy to see this Denmark-based band back in action! Their last album "The Great Acceleration" was an absolute ripper of sci-fi thrash and "The Crisis As Condition" is a more than stellar follow-up. Frankly I would put these guys alongside ENFORCED and HIGH COMMAND as the best thrashers going today.

Whereas the last album was a sci-fi epic, this one is extremely dire and pessimistic, tackling the constant state of environmental, technological and political crisis we are falling into day by day. One thing that hasn't changed....these suckers are FAST! They call their style "hyperthrash" and when it is at its most extreme, it moves at warp speed aggression. That hits you right away with "Life Won't Last" and the powerful title track. The riffing is savage but technical, with superb transitions and drumming. On this album, I sense a slight black metal influence, as there's more treble in the guitar.

With "Last Remains" and the 10 minute plus closer "Move In Strife", there are parts where things slow down a bit and we hear an almost RUSH like kind of ringing guitar tone. But the speed is never far away and the articulate growling vocals of Emil Hansen are a far cry from Geddy Lee.

A fine follow-up from TERMINALIST. More people should be aware of this band.
