AUTOPSY     “Ashes, Organs, Blood and Crypts”

By Dr. Abner Mality

These guys again already? Seems like I just finished reviewing “Morbidity Triumphant” a couple of months ago. Well, nobody can say AUTOPSY rests on their laurels.

In my look at “Morbidity Triumphant”, I mentioned being a bit uneasy with how much the band’s albums are starting to resemble each other. Having said that, there is still undeniable power and pleasure to be had with their gut-churning variety of old school death metal…and there always will be. “Ashes, Organs, Blood and Crypts” proves it, because it is very much in the vein of the last album. And yet for some reason, I like this one even more. Very little has changed in the AUTOPSY world, but the songs here seem to strike harder and deeper. The ordering and placement of the songs also seems to help the overall presentation. So I can’t chalk it up to anything but personal taste (such as it is) ...the album just “works” for me.

This time, we get the usual assault combining fast aggressive rippers (“Throatsaw”, “Marrow Fiend”) with morbid grisly doom (“Well of Entrails”, “Lobotomizing Gods”) and catchy, punk-influenced tracks (“Toxic Death Fuk”). Many tracks are combos of these styles and as always, there’s insane vocals from Chris Reifert and wailing, almost psychedelic lead guitar.

So yeah, this is another AUTOPSY album to satisfy your craving for morbid sickness in time-honored fashion...enjoy it for what it is!
