SIEGE COLUMN

“Darkside Legions”

By Dr. Abner Mality

I don’t know where SIEGE COLUMN is from...looks like either South America or maybe the Philippines...but judging by the cover art on “Darkside Legions”, their head seems to be in 1983 or thereabouts. This is real paper fanzine Wild Rags quality stuff and it tells you a little about the band. Crude, rude, primitive anarchy…

That’s what the music is, as well. What you see is what you get. This is a mixture of balls-out war metal with dark, evil thrash from the 80’s, with production to match. At times this is totally chaotic, noisy speed, like on “Snakeskin Mask” or “Gloves of Fire”. Then there are moments that are a little more composed in the manner of early POSSESSED, such as “Echoes In the Underworld” and “Buried In Lava”. At all times, though, this is primitive and raw, with constipated sounding vocal grunts and roars.

It’s nothing all that special, but if you look at the cover and say “hey, I’ll bet this will kick my rebel undergrouns ass”, you will probably be right.
