“Ikuisen Tulen Kammiossa”

By Dr. Abner Mality

More jaw-breaking black metal from Finland. I apologize in advance if I spell anything wrong.

Never heard of either Sacrificium Carmen or their label Saturnal Records before this, but I’m rather glad I made their acquaintance. If you’re a sucker for the style of Dissection circa “Storm of the Light’s Bane”, then this will be your jam. These dudes are tapping into the same melancholy yet aggressive style of melodic black metal and they execute it very well.

Opening cut “Lucifer” is not really a representation of the album, as it is on the slow and depressive side. SC really kicks into gear with “Oisen Haa” and my ears perk up right away. These guys know how to do compact and direct black metal songs that are fast yet full of sad and evil melody. Nothing here lasts over five minutes, which is a relief in these days of overbaked epic tunes. These songs are catchy! I particularly like the riffs on “Nemesis” and “Julman San”. SC is not afraid to dabble in thrash or even straight heavy metal, but the melodies are right out of the Dissection handbook

Of course, originality is nowhere to be found, but it rarely is. Sacrificium Carmen is a name to watch!
