SACRIFICIAL SLAUGHTER “Generation of Terror”

AVERSIO HUMANITATIS “Longing for the Untold”

By Dr. Abner Mality

Checking out a couple of recent extreme Eps sent to Wormwood Laboratories. They don’t have that much in common other than speed and fury.

Sacrificial Slaughter have been marauding the States with their thrashy brand of death metal since the mid-90’s. They absolutely know what they’re doing. Here we’ve got 5 brutal originals and a cover of Carnivore’s “Race War” added for good measure. The originals are compact and to the point and seem to draw a lot of inspiration from thrash like Slayer and Kreator as much as good old American DM such as Cannibal Corpse and Deicide. It’s not the doomy, cavernous kind of death metal and that kind of appeals to me because there’s been a lot of that faux-Incantation style lately. The Carnivore cover is faithful and well done. Sacrificial Slaughter are not really on the first tier of death metal bands, but they are pretty firm second tier stuff…the kind of band that will open for Vader, Cannibal Corpse or Malevolent Creation when they come to your town. The EP format suits them.

Aversio Humanitatis are a bit of a mystery. I have no idea where they hail from, but there’s definitely a European feel to the four raging tunes on “Longing For the Untold”. I really enjoy this EP! It’s fast and powerful black metal with elemental riffs and surprisingly potent song construction.  The title track is rather majestic with its soaring brutality while the other tracks mix furious black metal with some more composed sections. In other words, things don’t get boring or dragged out on the EP and the dark feeling is paramount. I would be very interested in hearing a full length from these guys!
