"Endless Asphyxiating Gloom"

By Dr. Abner Mality

This is one of the most satisfying little morsels of morbid metal I've chewed on for a while. From the scaly tentacled skull on the cover to the album title itself to the 32 minutes of supremely sick tunage contained within, "Endless Asphyxiating Gloom" delivers the goods.

The press sheet describes them as drawing influence from Morgoth and Celtic Frost and that is 100% accurate. The combination of the down-tuned Death-like grooves with the primitive Frost-ish pounding riffs is dead on and guaranteed to make any oldschool fiend band their head like a madman! The dry production really takes you back to the early 90's while suffering no loss of power. The tracks themselves manage to be just the right length...not too long, not too short. Sabbatory has found the death metal "Goldilocks" zone!

I enjoyed pretty much every cut on here, but "Corrosive Decay" is just an awesome combo of slithering evil and catchy riffing. When the track switches gears to a rabid Celtic Frost chug, complete with grunt, I defy any fan of the ancient ways of death metal to stand still. It's not the most mindblowing record ever, but it is totally enjoyable from start to finish and performed with loving worship of the original masters of DM!

 Extremely enjoyable record!
